Ek Bar Brings Bold New Energy to Little Italy
A new luxury cocktail lounge and Indian-inspired eatery has opened its doors on Preston Street, bringing inventive flavours and upscale flair to Ottawa’s Little Italy.

Ottawa’s Little Italy has welcomed an exciting new addition with the opening of Ek Bar, a luxury cocktail lounge and Indian-inspired eatery located at 225 Preston Street. Created by renowned restaurateur Hemant Bhagwani, Ek Bar blends inventive small plates with a carefully curated cocktail menu infused with Indian spices and seasonal herbs. The space offers a vibrant, upscale atmosphere that brings something entirely new to the neighbourhood while honouring the spirit of experimentation and quality that defines Preston Street.
Bhagwani, known for his award-winning restaurants across Toronto and beyond, chose to open in Little Italy for its strong sense of community and growing culinary reputation. Ek Bar fills the space formerly occupied by Katha, continuing the legacy of refined Indian cuisine in the heart of Ottawa.

With former Katha chef Teegavarapu Sarath Mohan joining Bhagwani in the kitchen, the menu features playful yet elevated dishes like duck bao buns and Raj Kachori tarts that are meant to be shared and savoured.
Since opening in late May, Ek Bar has generated a strong buzz among locals, food lovers, and the hospitality scene. The opening event drew community leaders and enthusiastic guests, all eager to experience something fresh on Preston. As Little Italy continues to evolve, Ek Bar brings a distinctive energy to the street—one that’s bold, stylish, and rooted in culinary creativity.
