Syracusa Memories

From Piazza Archimede, Syracusa 

Syracusa is found in Sicily, in the hot Italian south. The yellow granite column shape pays homage to the traditional architectural form and colours of the south. 

The sea is a bountiful source of food, and the fish motifs are common in Sicilian art, exemplified in Syracusa’s majestic Fountain of Diana. The cast fish tail on top of this column reminds us of generations of fishers, family banquets of seafood eaten outdoors in the evening, and of lovers walking around the fountain in the piazza.
